Based on deep-space observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers estimate there are at least 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe. But that number could climb to 200 billion or more as telescope technology improves.
And that’s just the observable universe — the part we can see because light has had time to reach us. The entire universe may contain vastly more galaxies, possibly even trillions, though we can't confirm that yet.
